What we do
Immigration, Orientation and Integration
Canada Bureau for African and Caribbean Immigrants (CBACI)
While the socioeconomic integration of immigrants in Canada has received a lot of attention from cities, and other government structures as well as nonprofits like us; the social and cultural integration of immigrants has received less attention. Studies and immigrant-focused research however seems to now inform us that one cannot succeed without the other. Getting a job is important, but it is not enough on its own to raise opinions of the standard of living or keep immigrants and their families in a city or area. Research on the welcome and retention of immigrants in different Canadian regions is increasingly demonstrating that integration factors take a systemic form: jobs, housing, opportunities for youth and adult education, services and resources, places of worship, transportation, and housing are examples of local capital that help immigrants feel integrated and welcome in their new communities.
At CBACI, our aim is to provide African and Caribbean immigrants with an all-rounded orientation and integration pathway; and working with city, provincial, Territorial as well as Federal authorities; our programs will aim to give immigrants opportunities and facilities for them to settle in and thrive in their chosen communities.
